Palliative care in Europe
Part of the EUROIMPACT programme is aimed at providing a comprehensive description of the structure of palliative care in Europe. All researchers are involved in studying and reporting differences across Europe regarding: epidemiological characteristics (e.g. the number of deaths due to cancer); demographical characteristics (e.g. place of death); socio-economical aspects, cultural aspects e.g. discussion of palliative care or other end-of-life issues in politics; historical aspects e.g. development of palliative care in the health care system in a country; relevant legislation and regulations (eg concerning palliative care, euthanasia) organisation and accessibility of care; descriptions of specialist multi-disciplinary and generalist community palliative care services in each country e.g. hospices, palliative home care, GPs.
